Boomers World Cup Luncheon

FRIDAY 21st JULY //
BOOMERS WORLD CUP LUNCHEON //
JOHN CASEY, MITCH MCCARRON & BRETT MAHER //

The Free Throw Foundation is pleased to present our next luncheon to be held at The Highway on the 21st of July 2023. With the FIBA Men’s World Cup tipping off in late August we are pleased to have secured John Casey, Mitch McCarron and Brett Maher as guest speakers.

John is a versatile sporting commentator who has covered a wide variety of sports including SANFL, Tennis (Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open), Golf (British Open and US PGA) and Commonwealth Games coverages. But it is in basketball that John is best known to us as the anchor of the NBL TV coverage since 1985, earning the title of The Voice of Basketball in Australia. His experience at international tournaments (4 Olympic Games and 5 FIBA World Cups) will be of great interest as he provides some insight into the teams that the Boomers will be competing with on the path to another international medal.

Fresh off representing Australia at the 3×3 World Cup in France and representing the Boomers throughout the World Cup Qualifying stages, Mitch McCarron will be in a perfect position to share his thoughts on whether the Boomers can build upon their Olympic bronze medal success over the two-week tournament being played across the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. As the current captain of the 36ers, Mitch is sure to provide some insights into the season ahead as well as the major changes that he has been involved in as a Board Member of the Australian Basketball Players’ Association.

Brett Maher needs no introduction to the South Australian Basketball Community, the Adelaide 36ers Legend played in four Olympic Games / World Championships as a Boomer. His over 100 games for the Australian senior men’s team including captaincy in the 2001 Goodwill games makes him the ideal speaker to discuss what it means to represent Australia, what the Boomers culture is all about and how the players go about preparing for such a tournament.

These lunches are always a great opportunity to catch up with the basketball community whilst supporting South Australia’s basketball youth.

Arrange a table with friends, or book your own ticket and we will place you with other like-minded Basketball enthusiasts.

Tickets can be purchased via Booking Button at a cost of $80pp (includes 2-course meal and a small donation to the Free Throw Foundation – cash bar available).

We look forward to seeing you on the 21st of July!!
